Dr. Scott Allen delivered the annual Pike Lecture at the Boston University School of Law in November.
Dr. Allen is currently a Professor Emeritus of Medicine and former Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at the University of California, Riverside. He is also the co-founder and co-director of the Center for Prisoner Health and Human Rights at Brown University.
He currently serves as a medical consultant for the Office of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties at the Department of Homeland Security monitoring medical care in immigration detention facilities. In 2018, in response to the family separation and rapid expansion of family detention, he and colleague Dr. Pamela McPherson made protected disclosures to Congress regarding imminent threats to the health and safety of children with the assistance of the Government Accountability Project.
Dr. Allen and his colleague, Dr. McPherson worked with Dr. Crosby and Dr. Annas on their recent, Greenwall foundation-funded research on the role of physicians in family separation and detention.
